TANKS
These
products belong to the category of the so-called combined basin or multiphase
basins. Because of their configuration they permit to carry out two
different treatments: sedimentation (physical process) and digestion
(biological process).
The Imhoff tanks are made up of two overlapped parts connected to each
other by a hydraulic system: the upper part is shaped like a hopper
with small slits in the bottom. It permits the sedimentation of the
substances contained in the sewage, which crosses the upper part longitudinally.
The lower part is for the continual store and digestion of the sludge
that continuously comes from the hole of the above chamber.
The tanks are made to hold a volume equal to a retention time of the
sewage of about two hours at the maximum capacity load for the sedimentation
chamber and of 100 L/AE for the digestion chamber (considering a water
supply of 200L/AE per day per inhabitant).
